Al Rashid Mosque

Al Rashid Mosque was officially opened on December 12, 1938.The Mosque served as a religious and community center for the Muslim community and as a result, many Muslim families were attracted to Edmonton. Today the Edmonton Muslim community numbers over 90,000 members and comprises 62 cultures. Its members have contributed to shaping Edmonton’s dynamic character for over a century and are poised to contribute to the growth and prosperity of Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada in the future as proud Muslim Canadians and in good faith with all other Canadians.

The mosque aims to lead and serve the Muslim community through religious, social and educational programs by creating a strong Muslim community preparing generations of leaders contributing to prosperity for all Canadians.

Edmonton Islamic Academy

Edmonton Islamic Academy’s (EIA) purpose is the necessity of raising a generation of Canadian Muslims that is conscious of its creator, Almighty God (Allah).  We believe that this message is achieved through intellectual growth, community service and upstanding citizenship that is integral to both Islam and our Canadian mosaic. At EIA we show students their world from an Islamic perspective.  It is our goal to preserve the religious and cultural identity of our students as reflected in their Islamic beliefs and values. We take this responsibility seriously, creating an atmosphere where students feel loved, safe, nurtured and encouraged to excel academically.  Our attention to academic success is always within the context of Islam and towards a way of life taught to us by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The Edmonton Islamic Academy (EIA) was established in 1987 in the basement of the Al-Rashid Mosque with 21 students. The school quickly grew, and to date, more than 1400 students from Preschool to Grade 12 attend the Academy.

As the University of British Columbia Muslim Students Association, we strive to serve Allah (SWT) through serving all Muslim students on campus, connecting with Muslims in the greater community, and promoting a better understanding of Islam for people of all backgrounds. By using the Qur’an and Sunnah as a guide, we strive to earn His pleasure and reward, and actualize the ultimate purpose of our lives, which is to worship Him (SWT).

Our mission is to support Muslim students on campus to be the best versions of themselves, while fulfilling their spiritual, academic, and social needs. We achieve this by providing resources to address contemporary challenges through the duration of their time on campus.
